Jackets California Style

Share

Don, my husband, and I moved from our home in Cotter, Arkansas to be closer to our children and grandchildren in California. Embellished by Dottie was put on hold to care for Don. He has since passed away, and I find myself looking at my jacket inventory. Packed away since our move, they call to be customized for you.

My current inventory has Small and Medium sized jackets. What does that mean for you? I want to make you a custom classic designed jacket. Want a western theme on the back panel? How about mixing it up and choosing wine or grapes as a theme on the front yoke? Horses and puppies?

Look through our jackets under the menu Designs Magnified: Western, Nature/Fishing, Travel, Wine and Wheels (motorcycles and cars). Zoom the magnifying glass over the details of the tapestry.

Next thing…contact me under the Contact menu. Tell me your ideas. We’ll talk. I’ll sew. You’ll wear. In the front pocket of each jacket, I insert a small stack of cards to share with your friends when they compliment your custom denim jacket, created by Embellished by Dottie.

Per my loyal customers, a new product!

Share

For several months, I have been working on a new product for the December show in Las Vegas. The birth of this product is a result of my “preacher” mouth, or ways and attitude, which have always been: nothing goes to waste!  Growing up in a family of six children is the root cause of this mandatory attitude. My mother would have said “Necessity is the mother of invention”, and this I have always done from the kitchen to the sewing room (which has another name given to it by a young man named Skyler; that however is another story for another post).

When in search of fabric for the original line of Embellished By Dottie jackets, I looked at fabric on line, in stores–anywhere possible. I went as far as the Pendleton factory in Oregon, looking for the new and out of the ordinary designs and quality.  I did not follow all of my great “preaching ” skills until my sewing room closet overflowed into the family room, upstairs bedrooms and into a storage area! Now, fast forward to today.

Many of these fabrics did not fit the inch requirements of the “repeat of the pattern” to create a beautiful jacket back. I knew I needed to clean out and do something with the yards and yards of beautiful prints and themed fabrics piling up that could not be used in the jackets. Then I remembered what a hit my pillows in my living room have been with visitors and friends. For years I have designed and featured pillows in my living room; I don’t know why this new line took me so long! Suffice to answer, all things come in their own good time.

With the help of a talented seamstress that has years of pillow making experience, I embarked on the task of coordination and design of the best fabrics, prints and cording, As always, the elements and labor of these products are local to the Ozarks, or close proximity. These pillows are part of my Made In America movement. (I will talk more on this topic and the importance of Made In America in another post.)

Rodeo pillowMany of you have asked: “Do you have any pillows?” Now, I can answer, YES.  I am anxious to hear your feedback to determine if these new items are as accepted as art and functional elements for your home as are my jackets in your fashion selection.  A zippered opening allows you to insert a pillow form based upon your choice of firmness. I look forward to posting photos soon to this web site for those of you that can not be in Las Vegas to see and feel the experience first hand.

As always hope to see you in Vegas!

September Closing In and Soon Jackets Out of the Closet

Share

Hi folks,

It is amazing to me how time flies. We all say it: “Man, how time flies.” “Time passes quicker the older I get.” “I remember when I was a kid the summer flew by and the school months dragged.” Fall is on the horizon, and many of you are going back to school.

But, with the changing seasons, those beautiful jackets you purchased in past years can be brought out and worn again. The denim is perfect for the cooler fall and early winter days, and even some of the milder winter ones. Hopefully, you washed the jacket before storing for the season. But, if you didn’t it is an easy task.

All of the themes–western, wine, horses, any design created by Embellished by Dottie–are completely machine washable and can be dried in a normal dryer–warm or cool  settings are recommended. Woolite dark color wash product is good for cleaning the jackets; however, Tide works just as well. It is not necessary to buy special product to launder your jacket.

One of my customers told me the other day that she had given out her last card that I always put in the pocket of a new jacket. The condition, the only condition, when you purchase one of my jackets is to hand out a card to everyone that compliments you on your gorgeous new jacket. It is a great way to spread the word and is fun. My customer told me that she gets some funny looks when she says, “Wait, I have to give you something because you complimented my jacket.” When she hands them the card there are a variety of responses, from appreciation to sometimes a look of skepticism but always the person takes the card. I have sold jackets to those admirers and they get to hand out cards when folks compliment their jacket.

There are many things to be said about having an Embellished By Dottie jacket. One of them is you will stand out in the crowd, with a timeless jacket that says you know good fashion. My jackets last for years with proper care and storing for seasons.

Go to my marketplace and see all the different designs. You can go to the magnify page and look closely at the designs. Check out is easy, payment through PayPal. I hope to hear from you soon.

New Jacket Designs from Embellished By Dottie & Care Instructions

Share

Good day to all. I am so excited to share some of my newest designs and themes with you. I have been asked several times about barrel racing designs. After much searching I was able to find a male and female western barrel racer on the same fabric!

See for your self! The barrel racer is displayed on the web site https://embellishedbydottie.com/?page_id=62 in a ladies style jacket, but the design looks just as great on a man’s jacket. After you see the jacket under the Jackets tab, go to https://embellishedbydottie.com/?page_id=306 and look at the woven style in the tapestry fabric with the magnification feature. The rich brown tones beg to be touched and loved (scroll down through the other styles to see the latest designs). The dark blue in the background is a designers dream, the riders just pop out of the foreground.

Stay tuned for future post updates and information on upcoming shows. I’m always on the lookout for new designs and would love suggestions. I am always thinking of how to continue to serve my customers and introduce new designs.

Please have a blessed day. Thank you for your time and feel free to email me at daronco at wildblue.net with any comments or questions. You may also contact me through the contact form on this site.

Featured designs in this post: above left is Barrel Racer; photo right is West Coast Wine; bottom left is Route 66, all featured in women’s sizes on this post but are available in men’s as well.

Christmas 2011 — Birth of a New Tradition

Share

As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods—merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor.

Make this year different. Give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that at gift giving time nothing can be found that is produced by American hands.

It’s time to think outside the boxes of excessive packaging and products produced by cheap labor that take away American jobs. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper?

Some ideas to help this season:

Everyone gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber?

Gym membership? It’s appropriate for all ages that are thinking about health improvement.

Who wouldn’t appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.

Everyone needs an oil change for his or her car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy or gal?

Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.

Computers need tune-ups, and there are lots of young computer business owners who are struggling to get their repair business up and running.

Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful wooden boxes.

Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. How about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theater. Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.

And while you are shopping for those you love remember those that are in need and donate some money to a good cause. Help out a family that won’t be having a good Christmas this year.

Do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five-dollar string of lights, about fifty cents stays in the community. If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice tip. Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city.

Are you one of those extravagant givers who thinks nothing of buying a Chinese made flat-screen? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course. There are owner-run restaurants–all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn’t the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint?

Remember, this season isn’t about big National chains—this is about supporting your hometown Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open. Christmas this year should be about caring for US, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams.

When we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we can’t imagine. This should be the new American Christmas tradition.
